Join in the Annual Clean-Up this March

MEHG / Friends of the Rivers in partnership with Peel-Harvey Catchment Council coordinates this month-long event to clean up our local parks, reserves and neighbourhoods.

View the clean-ups that registered with us in March 2024 to find more volunteers. Thank you to all the groups, schools, businesses and individuals that pitched in.

NEW: Participants removed more than 10,000 kilos of rubbish in March 2024!  Can you guess what the most commonly found item of rubbish was? Find out more courtesy of Peel-Harvey Catchment Council.

Register your group for the annual CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA event next March
We encourage all participating groups to hold their clean-up events between 1st & 31st March to tie in with Clean Up Australia Day on the first Sunday of March. Groups taking part will be publicly acknowledged through various social media streams which will spread the word about your clean-up and attract much-needed volunteers.

This year we want the event to be even bigger and better and involve more of our community so we can really make a difference to our local environment.

Steps you need to take to register for Clean Up Australia Month:

  • March will be here before you know it so please register your site with Clean Up Australia so that your free equipment arrives in time (gloves, bags, first aid kit, etc.). Clean Up Australia also provides public liability insurance, so this step is very important and necessary for a successful clean-up event. Here is a useful checklist for organisers.
  • You are also encouraged to fill in this registration form with your event details by 11 February 2024. This is used to advertise and promote your event locally. Thank you to Peel-Harvey Catchment Council for helping us with this and for providing a budget for signage and refreshments.
  • If your clean-up is in the Shire of Murray you can redeem $100 through Alcoa and the Shire’s Community Assistance Partnership Fund to assist with event costings. For further information and eligibility requirements contact the Shire on 08 9531 7777.

Download the resources you’ll need on the day.

History of our Clean Up Australia Month
It all started in 2003 with Friends of Rivers, Peel cleaning up the rivers. Since then, not only has Friends of the Rivers merged with MEHG, the event has expanded and has also been known as Clean Up the Peel Waterways and Clean Up the Peel. Note that we have dropped the name Peel out of respect for the Bindjareb people.
